Superintendent's Welcome

On behalf of the Arvin Union School District Board of Trustees, I welcome you, and I strongly encourage your involvement here in our district. I consider it an honor and privilege to serve our students, parents, employees and community here in Arvin, and I am very proud of the outstanding progress our students and schools made this past year due to the diligence and persistence of our staff and parents. We all strive to provide a safe learning environment for each child, and everyone in the Arvin Union School District works hard to assure that each child’s learning experience is a success.
We are all here to provide a safe and effective learning environment for your children; however, we cannot do it alone – it’s a partnership. Parents, guardians, and family members all have a vital role to play in each child’s educational career and are an essential part of our ongoing school improvement process. In addition to improving academic achievement, the Arvin Union School District is working hard to help reduce air pollution here in the southern San Joaquin Valley, and we are asking you to join us in our efforts by carpooling with other parents or encouraging your children to walk to school.
The parental involvement and active support you give to your child’s education will be a major determining factor in their success, not only here in the Arvin Union School District, but throughout their lifetime. Please take the time to read and understand the state STAR test results for your child. Become familiar with the grade-level standards adopted by the California Department of Education, as these standards provide administrators, teachers, and parents a blueprint for student learning each year. You will find information on grade-level standards by visiting www.cde.gov .
Discuss your child’s progress and report card with your child, their teacher, and their Principal. Make contact with your child’s teacher frequently. I encourage you to stop by the school site for a visit, volunteer in the classroom or on campus, and get involved in the School Site Council, Parent/Booster Clubs, and other activities that occur at your school on a regular basis. Develop strong relationships with your child’s friends and teacher(s) and set aside time each day to review your child’s assignments and supervise their homework. Please hold your children accountable for their classroom effort and familiarize yourself with the school rules, and don’t forget to praise your child and their teacher(s) for their learning progress frequently.
I encourage and invite you to contact your school administrator to learn more about how you can have an active role in your child’s successful school career. I am confident that, working together as a team, we will achieve the hopes and dreams that you have for your children.
