Vision Statement

The Migrant Program’s vision is to deepen and reinforce learning for all students in order to close the achievement gap.

 

Services Offered

The Arvin Union School District Migrant Education Program offers a variaty of programs designed to close the achievement gap.

Pre-K School Readiness

  • Pre- K classes during Extended Day (AM) and Saturday School for 3 – 5 year olds
  • Kinder preparation: Basic skills/science curriculum/CIRCLE curriculum
  • Child evaluations

Home-Base Outreach Program-School Readiness

  • Classes provided for 3 to 5 year olds
  • Child evaluations
  • Kinder Preparation- basic skills
  • Each child receives 20 sessions – classes are 1 hour twice a week, for 10 weeks

Extended Day

Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays

  • Pre-K to 8th grade
  • LA: CELDT focus till testing dates, academic vocabulary, comprehension skills, writing
  • Math: Measuring Up- Common Core
  • AVID strategies, Thinking Maps, Costa’s Levels of Questioning
  • Extra aide support- fluency, reading comprehension, writing
  • Students can participate if they are in band/sports. They will return to Migrant class after. If the student is in the Arvin Advantage- After School Program, they will go to class at 4:15 once they are released from Migrant.
  • Elementary Sites
    • 2:12-3:15 supper/DreamBox
    • 3:15-4:15 – Teacher Instruction
  • HDMS
    • 2:40-3:15 supper/DreamBox
    • 3:15-4:15- Teacher Instruction

Saturday School

Saturday School is held at Sierra Vista Elementary from 8:00-12:45 20 Saturdays out of the year.

  • Pre-K to 8th grade
  • Transportation/small breakfast/lunch provided
  • LA: Science curriculum- CELDT focus till testing dates (October 11th), academic vocabulary, comprehension skills, writing
  • Math: Measuring Up- Common Core
  • AVID strategies, Thinking Maps, Costa’s Levels of Questioning
  • PE- CATCH
  • Technology: i-Ready/Smarty Ants/My SBAC Coach
  • Extra aide support- fluency, reading comprehension, writing

PAC-Parent Meetings

Students receive an alternate dress if parents attend meetings. Students receive homework support/learning opportunities during meetings. Snacks are provided and free books are offered.

  • Parent meetings take place in the Haven Drive Cafeteria beginning at 5:00pm. They are held on the last Tuesday of the month.
  • Parents are invited to attend the meeting to learn about ways to help their children at home, be informed of local programs and events, and gather important information on different topics/programs.

Qualifications for the Migrant Program

How To Qualify For The Migrant Program:

 

  • You must be a child age 0-21, without a high school diploma
  • You must have moved across school district lines in the previous 36 months with a qualifying worker
  • That move must be from one residence to another and due to economic necessity
  • To be a qualifying worker- the worker must have engaged in qualifying work in agriculture or fishing soon after a move (within 60 days) OR the worker must have actively sought and have a recent history of moving for qualifying work.

Cómo calificar para el Programa Migrante:

  • Debe ser un niño de 0 a 21 años, sin un diploma de la secundaria
  • Debe haberse mudado de un distrito a otro distrito escolar en los últimos 36 meses con un trabajador calificado
  • Ese traslado debe ser de una residencia a otra y por necesidad económica
  • Para ser un trabajador calificado - el trabajador debe haber participado en un trabajo calificado en la agricultura o la pesca poco después de una mudanza (dentro de los 60 días) O el trabajador debe haber buscado activamente y tener un historial reciente de mudarse para un trabajo calificado.
